Our Shiloh Shepherds are trulyhome raised, which means that they share our home with us every day of the year. All of our puppies are whelped, cared for and loved in our home!
These events take place in the first few weeks of your puppy's life...
We start acquainting the puppies with the older dogs in our household. Also, on a case-by-case basis, we start welcoming human visitors to come over and spend time with the puppies (by appointment only).
We start giving the puppies "real" food, and begin the weaning process.
Weather permitting, the puppies start going outdoors to play.
The entire litter goes to the vet, and each puppy is thoroughly examined: heart, ears, eyes, coat, skin, structure, weight, and testicles. As part of the examination, the puppies receive their first inoculations.
The puppies are temperament tested, so we can determine which puppy is the best "fit" for each new family. Also, around this time, we evaluate each puppy's conformation.
We make the final decision about who is going where.
Your puppy is ready to join your family!
For many years, we were able to provide puppies to wonderful families, in Canada and the USA, when the puppies were eight weeks of age. Recently, Canada and the USA imposed the following regulatory changes, which affect all breeders in Canada.
Regulations for Providing Puppies Within Canada
Air Canada Cargo will no longer ship puppies within Canada until they are 12 weeks of age.
West Jet still ships puppies at 8 weeks of age.
This change does not impact puppies that are transported to homes within Canada by car.
Regulations for Providing Puppies to the USA
To be eligible for entry into the USA, either by plane or car, puppies must be 16 weeks of age.
Prior to entry at 16 weeks, puppies must be vaccinated for rabies at 12 weeks of age.
This regulatory change was enacted by the US Center for Disease Control in August 2014.
Obviously, these new regulations are having an impact on how we do business!
Over the years, many of our buyers have become friends and family members. Consequently, we have a large network of special people across North America (even in Japan)! We hope the new regulations will not prevent us from continuing to provide puppies to these people, as well as to new Shiloh owners.
Our breedings represent our
own diligent efforts to pair the right
sires and dams. It is our objective to produce puppies that come as close
as possible to epitomizing the Breed Standard
in the areas of health, temperament, structure and conformation.
Our breeding Shilohs have received passing adult hip certifications (typically with ratings of "Excellent" or "Good") from the Orthopedic Foundation for Animals (OFA).
Other Shilohs we use in our breeding program have received passing hip certification with no evidence of degenerative joint disease either from the Orthopedic Foundation for Animals (OFA) or the Pennsylvania Hip Improvement Program (PennHIP).
We also get at least preliminary elbow certification on all of our Shilohs.
Shilohs used in our breeding program also receive, at the very least, these additional clearances:
We register our adults and puppies with the Worldwide Shiloh Shepherd Breed Association, LLC (WSSBA).
We are proud members of theInternational Shiloh Shepherd Dog Club (ISSDC).
