My (Jan's) involvement with this amazing breed began in 1996, with my first Shiloh Shepherd puppy, Kuro.  As Kuro Kennel we boasted:

the first-ever ISSDC Puppy Of The Year
two Breed Champions
a two-time National Select winner
good hips/health
two litters with "Kuro" in their names!

Tella ~ Jan ~ Sunnie / April 2001

Jan & Tella (age 11) / Fall 2008

In 2001, I established Miracle Shilohs, and welcomed the first litter of "Miracles" into the world.  Later that year, my girls (Tella, Sunnie, Cora) and I relocated from Illinois to Prince Edward Island (Canada) and I married my best friend, Louis Burke.

Since then, we have placed some beautiful Shiloh Shepherd puppies in happy homes across Canada and the USA, and in Japan!

Continue reading down the page, for more about how we breed and raise Shilohs.

Our Shiloh Shepherds are truly home raised, which means that they share our home with us every day of the year.  All of our puppies are whelped, cared for and loved in our home!

These are some events that take place in the first few weeks of your puppy's life...

We start acquainting the puppies with the older dogs in our household.  Also, on a case-by-case basis, we start welcoming human visitors to come over and spend time with the puppies (by appointment only).

We start giving the puppies "real" food, and begin the weaning process.

Weather permitting, the puppies start going outdoors to play.

The entire litter goes to the vet, and each puppy is thoroughly examined: heart, ears, eyes, coat, skin, structure, weight, and testicles.  As part of the examination, the puppies receive their first inoculations.

The puppies are temperament tested, so we can determine which puppy is the best "fit" for each new family.  Also, around this time, we evaluate each puppy's conformation.

We make the final decision regarding who goes where!

Your puppy is ready to join your family!

We love it when our buyers come here to pick up their puppies!  However, we realize that this is not always possible.  If you have made prior arrangements with us, we are willing to ship puppies to locations within the USA and Canada.

Our breedings represent our own diligent efforts to pair the right sires and dams.  It is our objective to produce puppies that come as close as possible to epitomizing the Breed Standard in the areas of health, temperament, structure and conformation.

Our own breeding Shilohs have received passing adult hip certifications (typically with ratings of "Excellent" or "Good") from the Orthopedic Foundation for Animals (OFA).

Other Shilohs we use in our breeding program have received passing hip certification - with no evidence of degenerative joint disease - from the Orthopedic Foundation for Animals (OFA) or the Pennsylvania Hip Improvement Program (PennHIP).

We also gain elbow certification on all of our Shilohs.

Shilohs used in our breeding program also received these additional clearances:

Verification of Parentage (DNA) through the University of California at Davis
  OFA Cardiac Clearance
  Thyroid
  EPI
  Brucellosis

We register our adults and puppies with The Shiloh Shepherd Registry (TSSR).

Also, we are proud members of the International Shiloh Shepherd Dog Club (ISSDC).
