Miracle Shilohs

Tella, Jan, and Sunnie (2001)

My (Jan's) involvement with this magnificent breed began in 1996, with my first Shiloh Shepherd puppy, Kuro.

As Kuro Kennel, we boasted:

*  the first-ever ISSDC Puppy of the Year
*  two Breed Champions
*  a two-time National Select winner
*  good hips/good health, and
*  20 beautiful puppies with "Kuro" in their names!

In 2001 I established Miracle Shilohs, and we welcomed our first litter of "Miracles" into the world.  Later that year, the girls (Tella, Sunnie, Cora) and I relocated from Illinois to Prince Edward Island, and I married my best friend, Louis Burke.

Our Shiloh Shepherds are truly home raised, which means that they share our home with us every day of the year.  All of our puppies are whelped, cared for and loved in our home!

These are some of the events that take place in the first few weeks of your puppy's life...

We start acquainting the puppies with the older dogs in our household.  Also, on a case-by-case basis, we start welcoming human visitors to come over and spend some time with the puppies (by appointment only).

We start giving the puppies "real" food, and begin the weaning process.

Weather permitting, the puppies start going outdoors to play.

The entire litter goes to the vet (or, the vet comes here), and each puppy is thoroughly examined: heart, ears, eyes, coat, skin, structure, weight, and testicles.  After the examination, the puppies receive their first inoculations.

The puppies are temperament tested, so we can determine which puppy is the best "fit" for each new family.  Also, around this time, we evaluate each puppy's conformation.

We make the final decision regarding who goes where!

Your puppy is ready to go home!

Note:  We love it when our buyers come here to pick up their puppies!  However, we realize that this is not always a possibility.  If you have made prior arrangements with us, we are willing to ship puppies to locations in the USA and Canada.

Our breedings represent our diligent efforts to pair the right sires and dams.  It is our objective to produce puppies that epitomize the Breed Standard in the areas of health, temperament, structure and conformation.

Our own breeding Shilohs have received passing hip certifications of "Excellent" or "Good" from the Orthopedic Foundation for Animals (OFA).  Other Shilohs that we use in our breeding program have received passing hip certification - with no evidence of degenerative joint disease - from one of the following organizations: Orthopedic Foundation for Animals (OFA); Pennsylvania Hip Improvement Program (PennHIP); or Ontario Veterinary College (OVC).

We are also working to gain elbow certification on all Shilohs used in our breeding program.

Shilohs used in our breeding program have also received the additional certifications/clearances:

  • Parentage Verification (DNA) through the University of California at Davis

  • OFA Cardiac Clearance

  • Thyroid

  • EPI

  • Brucellosis

We register our adults and puppies with the Shiloh Shepherd Breed Association (SSBA) Registry.

Also, we are proud members of the International Shiloh Shepherd Dog Club (ISSDC).
